Rhonda Hallberg

Rhonda is a professional social worker and brings to this project thirty-five years’ experience in child welfare, social work education and children’s services. In addition to managing a Family and Legal Services Department at a large Children’s Aid Society she also designed and implemented a Research and Quality Improvement Department in the organization. She is part time faculty at King’s University College School of Social Work at the University of Western Ontario.

Marion Roberts

Marion brings over thirty years of experience in Child Welfare. She held progressively responsible positions including senior management positions in service delivery, strategic planning and human resources. Marion has excellent communication skills, the ability to manage projects, and is skilled in community engagement and consultation practices.

As an Indigenous child welfare consultant (member of Timiskaming First Nations), Marion has engaged with Indigenous communities and partnered with Indigenous child welfare organizations in the area of visioning, strategic planning and capacity development. In this role, she both supported and facilitated the development of clinically based services, as well as leading processes of engaging child welfare and mental health services to plan effectively as partners in service delivery.

In the past eighteen months Marion has been actively engaged with five First Nation communities in the development and planning for reclaiming jurisdiction over child and family services under “An Act respecting First Nations, Inuit and Métis children, youth and families”.

As BMG First Nation Services Founder, Marion has designed and led a host of BMG training topics including Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Belonging and Reconciliation. She has also designed two key programs consisting of multiple in-depth modules – Indigenous Capacity Building, and Indigenous Cultural Training for Non-Indigenous Organizations.

Phil Howe

Phillip Howe has over 18 years of senior management experience in child welfare, and extensive involvement in strategic planning, community collaboration and serving marginalized communities. He has supported child welfare organizations across the province and internationally in addressing issues of staff stress, workplace culture and creating environments that attract and retain talented employees.

Phillip has been the Board President of a children’s mental health center serving youth and developed and implemented strategic plans that provided counseling, housing, literacy and employment programs for under-serviced populations. He has participated in numerous initiatives with community partners to strengthen the service continuum for clients.

He was one of the founding members of Japanese Social Services in Toronto and has worked abroad providing clinical services, therapy and program development to multi-ethnic communities.

He is committed to engaging diverse stakeholders and internal staff in a strategic vision that will effectively service the client base and create investment and long-term attachment among employees to both the mission and organization. 

Shanice (Shay) Colley

Shay brings vast public service and non-profit experiences to the table, from working with Indigenous youth, communities and families through initiatives such as Inuit Child First Initiative and Jordan’s Principle, and advocating for, as well as, developing anti-racism training and courses within the lens of child well-being, equitable access to health care services and human rights.

Shay (Shanice) Colley (they/them) holds a Hons. B.A in Psychology from York University, and M.A., in Globalization and the Human Condition from McMaster University. They embody the roles of an intentional community advocate, bridge-builder, and proud system disruptor. As a Two-Spirited Afro-Mi’kmaw individual, their mission is to dismantle systemic barriers and lead the collective advancement of 2SLGBTQIA+, Indigenous, and Black, People of Colour communities, both within and beyond Canada. Shay champions the return of vulnerability to community-based work, embodying this ethos through profound, intimate, and non-negotiable efforts crucial for the growth, sustainability, and prosperity of these communities.

This holistic approach fuels Shay’s resolute dedication to fostering impactful change through determined action, positioning them in diverse roles that drive tangible transformation. Jessica Ketwaroo-Green

Jessica Ketwaroo-Green works as an intersectional gender equity advocate, and through her activism, she has implemented progressive systems and policy change in Canada. Jessica’s work has spanned a variety of disciplines within the gender equity sector, including sexual violence, intimate partner violence, criminal justice and women’s economic security through research, policy and analysis. Jessica works with organizations and individuals to build their capacity to address and dismantle systemic oppression.

After eight years of working as a researcher, gender policy analyst and programs coordinator, Jessica started consulting in February 2020. She started supporting organizations in realizing their role in addressing societal inequity through education, policy change and research. As an activist, she is working to achieve racial and gender equity in her lifetime. Jessica holds a unique combination of academic, professional and lived experience in gender and racial equity. Her Indo & Afro-Caribbean heritage grounds her anti-oppressive policy and research activities into positive outcomes for racialized communities. Central to her work is the belief in empowering Black and marginalized voices through an intersectional perspective and using community-based approaches to achieve data-driven results.

Kate Hand

Throughout her 25-year career in learning and development, Kate has always looked for ways to engage learners and to help them make personal connections to content. Learning is personal,
so we need that space to reflect and make sense of concepts, situations and ways forward. This starts with acknowledging the lived and living experiences we each bring to learning, to the
topic and to the group.

Kate has an extensive background in instructional design and delivery, a commitment to fostering connections and space for open disucssions when facilitating in any group setting, and a flexible and adaptable style based on the variety of settings, sectors and groups she has worked with.

Her background in instructional design and more recently in behaviour change and habit
formation enables her to think creatively about how to approach learning experiences.
Becoming a Leadership Coach has also helped to strengthen her facilitation and group
methods. It is powerful to reflect back someone words so they can answer their own questions!

Kate brings curiosity to group processes rather than set ideas. She also incorporates ‘co-design’ principles into her facilitation sessions where possible. This involves inviting learners to contribute to the approach, the content and the interactions so there is a shared ownership of
the experience.

Dino delivers a full range of coaching, training, and consulting activities, providing management and communication consultation to business, financial industry, educational institutions and nonprofits. Dino received his bachelor’s degree in Banking and Financial Services from the York University He is a Certified Financial Planner and a memberof the Institute of Canadian Bankers.  He currently works as a Branch manager at RBC and has been a people and branch manager in the banking industry in excess of 35 years. He leads and motivates a large team with a diversified background in achieving topresults on a consistent basis. With an extensive background he has successfully managed a substantial book of business.  Dino has led important business transformation efforts including process improvements, system implementations and change management.

Dino is a dynamic leader, trusted manager and exceptional student/client centric instructor/facilitator in delivering a focused based professional approach in an integrity managed philosophy.

Dino currently serves as the president of The Knights of Columbus, and Arts Richmond Hill.

Dino’s strong commitment to “giving back” has motivated him to join advisory groups such as the Excellence in Financial Services program at Seneca College, and provide support and guidance to both the committee and program staff. Dino is a member with CESOSACO International Services, providing business instructional programs to global executives. He has been appointed as a panelist on several industry panels. He helps create future leaders in our communities and develop advocates for making things better.

David Buwalda

David Buwalda (he/him) has 25 years of experience as a designer, facilitator, and project manager of multi-stakeholder engagement projects. He has led projects in the field of public health, adult education, and community engagement on several continents. Recent projects include work supporting public engagement in housing, developmental services, and long-term care in Toronto and Ontario.

David is a skilled facilitator and is currently the Community Engagement Specialist with BMG. He has a Master’s degree in Urban Planning (Tilburg University, NL) and Advanced Facilitators Certification (ICA Associates, Canada). David works closely with his clients to build engagement programs that amplify the voices of people with lived experience. He uses highly participative techniques, and an asset-based approach, that helps communities learn together, and in the process, build mutual support.

David incorporates the principles of adult learning into the material he teaches and has taught leadership development courses across all levels of an organization, both in Canada, and around the world.

With expertise in developing diversity, equity and inclusion transformations within organizations; Aleem is a strong believer in pluralism and uses relationships and engagement to influence meaningful change at the individual, organizational and systemic levels.

Aleem is a strong advocate for children, youth and families and strives to build civil society and systemic social change. Aleem has been recognized for leading and supporting provincial sector transformation and modernization initiatives and managing complex projects with long term vision and foresight.

Aleem works for the Aga Khan Council for Canada as their National Operating Officer. Previous to this role, Aleem was Chief Operating Officer of a large urban child welfare organization and previously worked at the Ontario Association of Children’s Aid Societies as the sector’s senior leader for the $300 million-dollar Child Protection Information Network, Reconciliation and Indigenous Services and several transformation initiatives. Aleem was also a part-time professor in the School of Community and Health Studies at Centennial College.

Aleem held the position of Chair with the Aga Khan Social Welfare Board for Ontario from 2011-2014 and continues to be involved in several social governance projects as a volunteer, and most recently, as the Co-Chair on the Toronto Public School Board’s Equity Policy Advisory Committee, an appointed member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers’ Best Practices Committee and is a Member on the VeriStell Institute Advisory Board of Directors.  Lastly, Aleem has been appointed as an executive member on Civic Action’s Emerging Leaders Network (2022-2024 term).

Marianne has been involved in mandating Indigenous agencies and was seconded to the Child Welfare Secretariat in 2005 as a Senior Policy Analyst to develop the guidelines for Customary Care and revise regulations pertaining to Part X of the CFSA.

Additionally, Marianne prepared and delivered course curriculum for the Native Social Services Worker Program at OSHKI-PIMACHE-O-WIN Education & Training Institute.

Marianne is a member of Pic River First Nation, a mother of two boys and grandmother to five beautiful grandchildren. She spends her spare time in her flower gardens and with her dog.

She has enhanced this speciality to ensure that the strategic plans reflect the maximum impact of the program and service offerings in alignment with the company’s Vision, Goals and Priorities and setting practical priorities.
